Formaldehyde Free and no VOC (Volatile Organic Compound)

For manufacturers claiming green cabinets, make sure you view certification of their no formaldehyde and no VOC status. The finish used is particularly important and should be checked to ensure that a water based, low or preferably no VOC finish. Some of these finishes include a Linseed Oil Finish and mineral oils. These finishes are hand-rubbed natural, chemical-free finish extracted from flax seed (in the case of linseed oil). They offer a quality finish that has been used for years in applications such as preservation of antiques and guns.
