Quality Features of Countertops – Wood and Exotic Woods

Wood and Exotic Woods

Butcher block in either maple or oak is the most common of wood counter top material, but exotic woods are making a strong statement in many upscale kitchens. Some of the more popular woods that are being offered are Zebra, Mahogany, Walnut, Babinga, Teak, Bamboo and Cherry, to mention a few. Wood lends itself to most counter top shapes and sizes. It offers a warm and nurturing element in a kitchen and is fairly easy to maintain depending on the sealer that has been applied.

The most common way to seal a wood top is with food grade oil that is wiped on and left to penetrate the wood. The other sealer used in some wood counter tops is Tung oil which gives the surface a harder shell like appearance. Blemishes such as scratches, scorch marks and stains can be sanded out and oil reapplied.
