Quality Features of Countertops – Granite and Marble

Granite and Marble

Granite adds beauty and durability to any kitchen offering excellent scratch and heat resistance. It is a porous material, therefore needs to be sealed, but there are sealers on the market now that last up to 10 years. Granite is available in many colors and patterns and because it is a product of nature no two pieces will be alike giving it the unique elegance that has made it so popular. It is available in a polished finish as well as honed, suede and flamed. Suede and flame add a texture to the surface but like honed increases its porosity making it more difficult to maintain and more likely to stain.

Marble is more porous than granite making it much more suseptible to staining and scratches, but is very popular as a bathroom surfacing material. It is also available as polished or honed. However, it is important to note that as a natural material marble and granite have no warranty against staining or cracking.
