What is Universal Design?
Universal Design is a guide for designing spaces to be usable and accessible for all members of society including those with issues and disabilities including, but certainly not limited to:
- Challenges / disabilities associated with aging
- Mobility limitations
- Obesity
- Wheelchair confinement
People are living longer and lives are getting busier. We need homes that are comfortable, usable and can accommodate us at age thirty as well as age seventy. People are looking for homes that will grow with them and can accommodate changes as they become necessary. Universal Design provides guidelines to help us achieve these goals, while accommodating the needs of those with disabilities and also just making everyday life easier for everyone.
